Sailing Competition Will Return For A Seychelles Next Year

The Seychelles Regatta sailing competition (SRSC) returns to the island nation’s shores, coming year after the break of five-years, the information is shared by top officials of tourism on Monday.

The event will be organized by Publi Voile, which is a France-based company in association with local authorities. The event will take place from 27 May to 3rd of June. This is also the time of the southeast trade winds that provide winds between 15 to 20 knots.

Maurice Loustau-Lalanne the Minister for Tourism said that the Seychelles Regatta sailing competition 4th edition will be different in comparison to the previous ones.

“This time this event will uphold international standards, as foreign sailors will also take part in the competitions. The sailors from around the world are coming into this competition,” said Loustau-Lalanne.

This year the sailing competition, which is open to local sailors as well, is targeting nearly 10 international skippers in the race and five skippers have confirmed their participation already. Sailors who want to participate in the race have the time until January to do the registration. The Seychelles Yachting Association, chair Alain Alcindor, said on this that on time registration of a name is important to the participating teams for logistical purposes.

Minister Loustau-Lanne said the race was discontinued for some time due to various reasons, but now it is back “It is very important for all of us that every goes well with the image of Seychelles and we need to try and do this annually.”

The objective of this regatta is to offer a balance between tourism and a rigorous sailing competition by encouraging a Seychelles discovery, which is a group of 115 islands present in the western Indian Ocean.
